Aram Voves

Aram Voves (b. 1970, Vienna) grew up in a family of performers and visual artists. As a child he spent time in London, where the vibrant art and music scene of King’s Road inspired his early photography. Influenced both by Britain’s cultural landscape and Vienna’s Museum of Fine Arts, he developed a style rooted in both modernity and classical traditions.

After early mentorship from photographer Roland Pletersky, Voves pursued independent training, including studies with the New York Institute of Photography and at St. Martin’s School of Art, London. His first major assignment was documenting the Vienna police department’s work with people with disabilities. He also photographed locations for Stanley Kubrick’s unrealized Holocaust film Wartime Lies.

Alongside his family’s century-old theatrical and music business, Voves built a portfolio of publicity shots and concert reportages of renowned musicians. Despite serious health challenges, including a spinal tumor that left him partially paralyzed, he returned to work in 1999 and later became team photographer for Red Star Belgrade during their European Cup matches in Vienna.

Since 2015, Voves has also directed films. His debut feature Fools Dimension, starring Jango Edwards, won multiple international awards, followed by Win-Win (2019), a silent film in homage to early cinema, also acclaimed at festivals.
